Sustainability Project

After engaging with our course readings/resources in modules one through four, reflecting in your digital response journals, and participating in class discussions, gather with your trade group members and co-create an environmental/sustainability resource that can be used in your teaching.

Here are the multiple components to address in your sustainability project resource guide:

  1. Describe your trade and the environmental/sustainability issues that are unique to your trade (approximately 250 words). Use your professional knowledge and cite at least one reference.
  2. Community Resources: Explore your community to discover resources (people, organizations or projects) who you can connect with to support your environmental/sustainability practices.
    1. Find at least one community resource and share a bit about the person, organization, or project: (approximately 250 words: name, contact, website, brief description, and contribution details).
  3. Educational Resources: Select educational resources (provincial, private, non-profit, global) to support your environmental/sustainability practices and/or lesson plans and activities.
    1. Find at least one educational resource and share a bit about the resource: (approximately 250 words: name, website, particular aspects, curriculum expectations, and description of resource).
  4. Sample lesson plans/activities: create at least one lesson plan or activity that can be used in your classroom with your students to integrate your environmental/sustainability practices.
    1. Summative Assessment - is this ok? Lets check in with Jill
    2. Follow up with a lesson plan on media literacy / climate change in social media, media influence - focusing the class on the ideas of creating content as a way forward
  5. Select a DIGITAL PLATFORM to showcase your project. Keep in mind you will want a platform that will be easeful for group collaboration, presentation, and submission on D2L.

Expectations:

The Sustainability Project should be a comprehensive classroom resource that shows evidence of collaboration, integration of course content and real-world application.

Your resource should be thoughtfully organized, well-articulated, and appropriately cited with an APA Style Reference Section: https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/references

Suggested length:

This will look different for each group, depending on your digital platform.

However, I recommend your resource be equivalent to at least a 4-page paper (double spaced). Possible digital platforms to consider: Google Drive Folder or Slides, PowerPoint Slides, Sutori creation, Canva, compiled Google or Word Documents, or other platforms of your choice.

Evaluation:

The Sustainability Project is marked using the Faculty of Education Assessment Rubric in general and the following criteria specifically: effort (how well you addressed the requirements outlined in the assignment sheet), quality (organization and mechanics) and depth (development of ideas and professional/personal reflection) in written and creative expression.
