A Water Security & E-Waste Combined Project Idea

Course Connections:

  1. Place-based education: Local watersheds - maybe something we can map IRL and digitally
  2. Indigenous perspectives: Connecting to and honouring water as life-giving (referencing Robin Wall Kimmerer and Autumn Peltier).
  3. Youth Agency: Students can make a PSA, Short Documentary, Social Media Campaign, Article, News Story, Video Essay Explainer, Experimental Film, Photo Essay (spit balling), Merch?
  4. Climate Change Connection: Accessing to fresh water is already becoming a crisis in many parts of the world disproportionally impacted by climate change. Water itself is critical for the production of oxygen (50% of it made by oceanic plankton for example), water system failures can mean the failure of life. As a limited resource, desertification of a region can collapse water access for plant and animal life. Water Access is critical to survival of extreme climate change and difficult to create from scratch. It’s something we need to thinking critically about preserving. The water cycle we learn about in grade school is actually starting to malfunction and fresh water is being made toxic by the very technology we made need to save it.
  5. The Ai Connection: This connects to overuse of water to cool data centres too, ha!
